It can also refer to the process of adjusting the spacing to improve legibility and avoid disruptive gaps between your letters. To change the spacing manually, you can adjust the slider with your finger or a pencil. The slider allows you to even set the spacing to a negative value, which will probably cause the letters of your font to overlap. You are now able to adjust the kerning of a single character to improve the overall legibility of the text body.

Tracking is additionally related to the amount of space between letters in your text but on a global scale. Rather than adjusting the space between two specific characters, the Tracking function adjusts the space between all of your characters simultaneously. To adjust the tracking properties of your text, select all of the text you wish to alter and use the Tracking 2 slider to adjust. Line Height refers to the spacing between the baselines of the typeface, it signifies basically the amount of space between the baseline of the top line and the baseline of the bottom line of text.

When you create a new text, its line height will automatically adjust to match its font size. To change this setting, you can use your finger or a pencil on the Line Height slider to adjust the value. Observe how the distance between your lines of text decreases or increases depending on how adjust the slider.

Pro Tip — The Line Height feature will allow you more precision while creating text with several lines or paragraphs. You can tap the Fit Bounds to Text Size button to resize the bounding box around your text. Once you've set your text to the correct size, it is the optimal moment to tap this button.

It will allow you to edit and move your text precisely, and keep your document organized. To convert text into vector shapes, select your text box and tap the button at the bottom of the Path Tab labeled Create Outlines from Text 1. This will allow you to edit the text in the same way you would edit any other vector paths. But, keep in mind that, converting text to outlines is a one-way process. Tap and hold the orange Rotate handle at the top center of your text box, and drag it to rotate the text box to the left or the right.

Update Since I wrote this, a new version of Affinity Photo has been released, and this allows you to apply the perspective tool as a "Live filter layer". To shear objects with Affinity Photo, select your image with the Move Tool and move your cursor to one of the handles on the sides not the corner handles of the selection:.

When you hover your cursor over the left or right handle of your selection, the cursor icon will change to arrows that point upwards and downwards. At this point you can click and drag up or down to shear your selection vertically. By default, the selection will shear relative to its opposite side. You can shear from the center by holding Control while clicking and dragging.

Hovering your cursor over the top or bottom of your selection will allow you to shear your image horizontally. Another way to free transform with Affinity Photo is to alter the perspective of your image. This can be done using the Perspective Tool , which will be located in your toolbar:.

The tool is hidden behind the Mesh Warp Tool, so right-click on that tool in order to get a flyout menu that will allow you to access the Perspective Tool. With the Perspective Tool selected, you should notice four nodes in the corners of your image:. Holding Shift while clicking and dragging will lock the transformation onto the vertical or horizontal axis, depending on the direction of your hand movement.

Whenever you have the Perspective Tool activated you should see a small menu in the bottom-right of your screen.
